From 17th to 21st of September, 2018, at Vietnam Germany Center (VDZ), under Rohan DAAD SDG framework, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), University of Rostock (RU) and Hanoi University of Science – Vietnam National University (VNU-HUS) had joint-organized the Seminar of “Catalysis toward sustainable chemical industry”.
Presenting in the seminar were Assoc. Prof. Le Minh Thang – Chairman of HUST Council, Prof. Udo Kragl – Vice President of RU, Mr. Stefan Hase Bergen – Director of DAAD South Asia, Prof. Nguyen Van Noi – President of VNU-HUST; along with other officials, students and researchers from the universities participated in RoHan Project.

RoHan Project (Rostock – Hanoi) is a new project from German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Funded by Germany Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), this project will focus in the implementation of SDG Program. University of Rostock, Leibniz Institute for Catalysis (LIKAT), HUST and VNU-HUS will cooperate to execute SDG Program during the time of 2016 – 2020. Purpose of the Program is to elaborate the development and establishment of catalysis technology and procedure by training highly skilled Vietnamese scientists to be able to operate in leading positions in fields of industrial and education. The Program will concentrate on training quality and life-study opportunities, as well as improving gender equality and delivering more rights to women, in order to obtain more achievements in sustainable development by 2030.
Opening the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Le Minh Thang emphasized: “This is the second time the Seminar is organized in HUST. It is an opportunity for former-RoHan students to meet, to share, and especially to demonstrate the great result from the cooperation between HUST and universities from Germany under RoHan framework. The Seminar also creates occasions for scientists to reinforce and initiate their networks, and to share the result from researching with others from institutes, corporations in Vietnam and other countries, such as Nanyang Technological University, Vietnam Petroleum Institute, etc. At the workshop/conference, the scientists focus on sharing research results in seven chemical topics, including: sustainable catalysis, catalysis features, optical catalysis, industrial catalysis, bio-waste catalysis, redox catalysis, air-treatment, etc. Among those researches, many carried important and practical influence and presented by famous scientists.
Also under framework of RoHan Project, 18 Petro-chemical Technology students from Cohort 59th, School of Chemical Engineering, HUST had distinctively completed the short-term course of “homogeneous catalysis” and received RoHan certificate. This course is taught in English by Dr. Esteban Mejia and Dr. Jola Pospech from LIKAT-RU.
The Seminar had created opportunities for scientists and experts, not only in exchanging academic, approaching new advance technology and trends in international chemistry, but also in enriching the research cooperation network between universities and institutes, in order to contribute in the development in science and technology of Vietnam./.
Several achievements from RoHan DAAD SDG Program After two years of implementation, the RoHan Project of HUST and universities from Germany has rapidly developed and achieved great outcomes, helped Vietnamese students and scientists to get closer to knowledge in chemical fields, contributed to the relationship of Vietnam – Germany. Up to this day, there have been 40 exchange scientists and students between partnered institutes, 25 others from HUST to come and work at RU, 3 students from Malaysia, Indonesia and India to work at RoHan Laboratory in HUST. The Program successfully established one laboratory in HUST with international-standard facility for students to practice and study. This is the first lab in Vietnam equipped with EPR device and can be able to share the test result with Rostock. |
