From 6 to 10 November this Fall semester 2023, 58 students and 4 lecturers from the Temasek Polytechnic (Singapore) visited Hanoi University of Science and Technology for their one-week Global Study, Overseas Study Trip 2023 Program. Based on strong collaboration between the two institutions, the program has offered a great chance for students from both countries to exchange knowledge and discuss their academic/cultural interests.
On November 7th, 2023, the Welcome Opening Ceremony was organized in a warm atmosphere for all Temasek Polytechnic students and lecturers, with the attendance of Dr. Pham Hung Dung - Deputy Head of the Department of Partnership and Engagement; Dr. Nguyen Viet Khoa - Dean of School of Foreign Language, together with many professors, students from HUST.
In the opening ceremony, Dr. Pham Hung Dung expressed his delight in welcoming lecturers and students from Temasek Polytechnic to study and exchange at HUST in this Global Study Overseas Study Trip 2023 Program. “I truly believe that GSOST 2023 will serve as a platform to grow the students’ mindset and gain a global perspective, turning them into critical thinkers and difference-makers. I wish that all of you have a good preparation for your time ahead at HUST and a rewarding journey of experience in Vietnam”
Talking about the program Dr. Nguyen Viet Khoa - Dean of School of Foreign Language emphasized:'' I'm glad to have SOFL students joining the GSOST 2023 program - a vibrant and engaging atmosphere for students of both countries to connect and foster a global perspective. This cultural exposure is something we all want our students to obtain and I hope that the young energy and enthusiasm of our students will lead to beautiful friendships and life-lasting experiences. Last but not least, one thing I'm very sure about is that SOFL students will take great care of all TP students during our upcoming learning journey”.
Dr. Joel Yong, Lecturer, Centre for Urban Sustainability (CUS), School of Applied Science, Temasek Polytechnic shared “ TP students gained invaluable insights into the food culture and the various industries through the sharing sessions with the Singapore Chamber of Commerce, the insightful workshops provided by the HUST lecturers and the site visit to the food manufacturing plant. The engaging campus tour also provided our students with a comprehensive understanding of your institution's state-of-the-art facilities and innovative programs. Through interactive games and practical demonstrations, they also experienced the joy of learning in a stimulating environment and interacting with your staff and students – especially with the Taylor Swift sing-along session”
In general, by taking part in this program, students can gain a deeper appreciation for Vietnamese culture, discover the similarities and differences between their own country and Vietnam, and expand their knowledge even further. Jaden, a student majoring in chemical engineering, was impressed with the friendliness and enthusiasm of HUST students and he hoped to have as many memorable moments as possible during his time here. As he has always wanted to visit Vietnam, Jaden was excited and wanted to fully utilize this chance to invest his energy and commitment in all profound activities on this trip.
During these years, university internationalization has become a key factor in HUST’s vision and development plans. This Global Study Program has made a great contribution to the implementation of HUST internationalization strategies. The program not only enhances the cooperative relationships between the two universities but also provides a valuable opportunity for students and professors from diverse backgrounds with similar interests to learn, work together, and exchange ideas together.
