Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) keeps going to affirm its achievement to international standards in educational quality by participating in the accreditation of the French Engineering Degrees Commission (CTI, in French: Commission des Titres d’Ingénieur) for two PFIEV programs : Aeronautical Engineering ; and Control and Automation Engineering.

Comparing to previous accreditation, the assessment session of this year was organized in online mode during two days.  At the Opening Ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Phong Dien - HUST Vice-President stated: “In the context of complicated evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic as actually, the organization of this accreditation session has shown the determination of HUST to overcome challenges for accomplishing our mission in educating high-quality engineers.”

According to Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Phong Dien, HUST is an innovative university - one of the first autonomous universities in Vietnam.  In the first years of piloting the university autonomy, HUST extremely focused on the training innovation and on the teaching quality improvement, with a commitment of educating high-quality human resources in the fields of technology and engineering.

Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Phong Dien, HUST Vice President spoke at the Opening ceremony of the CTI accreditation session on March 28, 2022.

"The challenge does not really stay in the reform of training programs, but stays in how to innovate the teaching methods which have been perennial habits and which may take us many years to change", shared by Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Phong Dien.

Face up to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the trend of digital transformation and the pressure from an increasing number of excellent admitted students, the matter of how to carry out teaching innovation on a digital basis has become both a challenge and an opportunity.

HUST is implementing a lot of policies and activities to promote the teaching innovation, notably the strong deployment of blended-learning methods, a combination of traditional learning and online learning due to the impact of COVID-19.

Dr. Bernard Pineaux, Chief Commissioner in charge of CTI report, was impressed with the academic activities of HUST in recent years, and made some recommendations to improve HUST’s training program quality.

Currently, HUST has been step-by-step realizing this strategy plan accrediting the training quality according to European standards for the period 2017-2025. In 2022, HUST is expected to be re-accredited by HCERES (France) and be accredited for the first time the 16 training programs by ASIIN – the Accreditation Agency for Study Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics (Germany).

The French-Vietnamese PFIEV program is an education cooperation project between the French and Vietnamese governments, accredited by the French CTI since 1999. The French-Vietnamese PFIEV program is designed for a period of 5 years with requirements of output on language proficiency in English and French.

The Excellent Engineer Training Programs (PFIEV) have been re-accredited many times in the past by CTI and the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE) to be as equivalent to a master's degree. They are also recognized as equivalent to a master's level by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam (MOET).

At present, the PFIEV Program has enrolled 18 cohorts in total. Graduates of this program have many competitive advantages in recruitment and research in both domestic and international level, especially in European countries.

The French CTI is an independent committee working on the development of the European Higher Education, established by French legislation in 1934.
